Canon SD1000 digi cam - small, cheap, and it owns!

My Canon SD1000 digital camera - frontMy Canon SD1000 digital camera - backJust because FutureShop was having this crazy sale, I decided to buy a second point-and-shoot camera since the Canon G9 that I have is kind of bulky to carry around. Went to FutureShop at 5pm sharp since they were having this 10% off almost everything sale. So I looked around and asked the sales dude what’s the cheapest Canon slim camera there and he showed me the Canon SD1000. It was a 7.1 megapixels cam and was only $161 after all the savings! ($20 instant saving off $199 regular price, plus the 10% off) I was pretty stoked about the price so I bought it without second thought (which kind of went against my usual routine of reading 8000 reviews online and comparing prices on 9000 websites before making a buying decision).

Sample image - took at River Roard, RichmondTook the camera home and played around with it for a bit. Turned out to be an awesome camera! Read a couple reviews on it and most of them were pretty good. There is a newer model (SD1100) that’s already out but it’s selling for $279 which gives you an additional megapixel (8.0) and an image stabilizer. The price tag doesn’t really fall within my budget so I didn’t really look into it. Overall I’m pretty happy with the camera, will of course take more pics here and there just to try it out.

Lunar eclipse…. cool stuff

On the way to Burnaby MountainMy trusted 30x refracting telescopeLunar eclipse happened tonight around 7pm. I decided to drive up onto the Burnaby Mountain to take a peek… just to have a break from my insanely busy work schedule. Got there around 6:30pm, not too many people, but some “pros” already had their tripods and all their gears ready to go. People started crowding up around 7pm since it was said that the “prime time” (which is the moon getting completely blocked due to that the sun/earth/moon are perfectly aligned in a straight line or something) would occur around 6:55pm. It was a bit cloudly but the killing thing was the coldness! I was totally froze up and my hands were all numb. I could barely hold up the camera and my telescope…

Lunar eclipseLunar eclipseLunar eclipse - primeAnyway, took a couple pictures with my Canon G9 digital camera, and had it zoomed all the way up to 24X (optical + digital). The pictures were reasonably clear without using a tripod (I couldn’t believe that I actually forgot to bring one…) The photo with the moon appearing red-ish was the moment when it was completely blocked. Pretty cool stuff I would say despite the coldness :)

Oh by the way, I was eating some Mcdonalds fries from the Junior Chicken value meal while gazing the moon with my car’s roof off. Can life be better than this? XD

Crazy plane crash in Richmond

Plane crashed into hi-rise on Saba Road, RichmondPlane crashed into hi-rise on Saba Road, RichmondThis crazy plane crashed right into the 9th floor of some hi-rise apartment building in Richmond yesterday night…. totally reminds me of 911 and the terrorists’ attack. I went to the tragic location this morning and took some historical pictures (with my new Canon G9 :) ). I think the pilot died and the owners in the unit were also injuired. This is really insane. I wonder how would I have reacted when I was having lunch watching TV and all of a sudden a jet crashes into me. I would probably be in shock for a couple weeks…here is an article about it.
