Japadog and Yavis Club Cafe

Japadog - Japanese style hotdog standMisomayo dog, Okonomi dog - Japadog Went to Japadog finally, a Japanese style hot dog stand in Downtown Vancouver. I first heard it from Andrew since he worked close to there and he often had it for lunch. I didn’t really have a chance to actually check out the stand as parking was quite hectic there and it was quite far from where I live. Anyway Wendy and I drove by it again last week and I finally decided that I must check it out ASAP. It wasn’t too busy when we were there, even though there was a “line up here” sign on the ground there wasn’t really any line-up (there were maybe 3 or 4 people either eating or waiting to order). It sure smelt good though, with a strong scent of Japanese okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise~ We quickly ordered two dogs: The Misomayo and Okonomi. The ladies at the booth served quite quickly and we got our food in less than 2 minutes. They were tasty!! The sausage was HUGE, the bun was grilled nicely and it was crispy. The sauce and toppings were great - the radish sprouts tasted refreshing on the Misomayo dog, while the okonomiyaki sauce and cabbage on the Okonomi dog tasted just like okonomiyaki, not a surprising taste but still very tasty. We’ll definitely go again to try their “chilli” dogs :D

Mango Cheesecake - Yavis Club CafeSesame Glacier Cheesecake - Yavis Club CafeGreentea Milkshake and Iced Coffee - Yavis Club CafeWe went to the Yavis Club Cafe at night, which was a dessert/cheesecake cafe in Richmond. We were stoked to go as we were curious how this place would compare to Berry Good. It was packed, we had to wait outside for about 10 minutes. The menu was pretty huge, with a variety of cheesecakes. The special ones were the “glacier” cheesecakes…. Wendy ordered a Mango Cheesecake and I got a Sesame Glacier Cheesecake. The mango one was pretty tasty, without the super strong cheesy taste which I dislike. The sesame one was very nice and it was a brand new thing for my tastebuds - kind of like icecream but tasted like cheesecake at the same time, with a nice sesame accent - very nice. The drinks were tasty too, I got a greentea milkshake (tasty!!!) and Wendy got a iced coffee. This is definitely another “must go again soon” type of place.

Kimchi or no kimchi

It’s “Good Friday” stats holiday today, so no work today. I finally decided to return my Tannoy Reveal 6D studio monitors. I was sure they were great speakers, but I guess as the guy at Tom Lee said today, these speakers were designed for reference not for live, which was what I was using them for (live piano sound). The speakers sounded okay in my room but there were a couple keys on the piano that when I played would produce a rather annoying resonance, or low-pitch “noise” that was pretty annoying to hear. Andrew mentioned that it was probably due to the square shape of my room, which was the worst kind of room for speakers to be placed in - somehow the squareness of the room would emphasize the bouncing of the sound waves and worsen the unnecessary resonance. Well, whether it’s the resonance or the quality of the speakers itself, I returned them for my own sanity.

Had a lot of kimchi veggie and carrots today. Had a LOT, and then I got this diarrhea :( I realized that whenever I eat too much spicy or stuff that has a very strong spice/taste it would follow by an upset stomach… what’s wrong with my stomach? Why can’t I eat more kimchi….I love kimchi… I guess I should test out the max amount of kimchi I can eat, like eat 1 piece today, 2 pieces tomorrow, 3 pieces day after…etc and see when I’m going to upset my stomach…

Massive Tech Show

MASSIVE Technology ShowWent to the 2008 “Massive Tech Show” at Canada Place today with Andrew. Was a pretty boring show, as usual, lol….but who cares the whole point of going was to grab the freebies that people usually give away at shows. There were lots of booths, and some familiar names like Yahoo, Marque, Peer1 Network, Cira.ca….etc. We were basically just wandering around aimlessly and scoping for free stuff to grab…lol. I got a couple of pens, a 1GB USB drive (thanks Cira.ca!!!!) and an interesting Yahoo “robotic pen” which folds up quite nicely…and some notepads I think.

Touch sensitive projection screeni-BUDDY - little robot that reacts to msn messagesi-BUDDY - little robot that reacts to msn messagesEven though overall it was pretty boring there were a couple interesting booths. One of them was selling this funny little robots called i-BUDDY that look 90% alike the MSN icon. You connect them to your USB port and they would respond to your MSN messages by flapping wings or changing the color of their head area. I can’t see a reason of buying it but I just thought it’s a pretty neat little gadget. There was another booth showing off a hugeeee touch sensitive projection screen where you could use their special designed “pens” to draw on. Imagine standing in front of a projection screen and drawing/moving the cursor right on the screen itself. I thought it was really cool…felt like I was in some sci-fi movies or something (I took a pic, lol).

Freebies! We also was able to check out the all-new Macbook Air at the macstation.ca booth. Jesus it was SO thin… and the screen was SO bright and vibrant. Well guess everyone already knew how it looks but it was just cool to be able to get a hands on experience with it. Guess I’ll have to buy 8 of these guys now….lol. Anyway, here’s a picture of all the free stuff that I scored today…lol

World of Warcraft

World of WarcraftJust got a trial account for World of Warcraft and started playing it last night…. it’s a realli nice game with nice graphics (I topped up all the settings) and awesome music~ I’ve always been wanting to play the game since Andrew has been sending me all these cool screenshots taken at various cool moutains/rivers…etc and also mp3s of the cool in-game music. I’ve always been a big fan of games with cool music! Anyway finally got a chance to get a trial account invitation from Andrew so I installed and played with him for a while. Completed a couple “quests” which we basically had to do some supposedly annoying tasks like “kill 10 bears and 20 bats in the Northern part of the city”…haha but it turned out to be lots of fun! I was trying out some crazy commands like /mourn once typed you will start to “mourn” someone death and you would cry and stuff, or type /dance and you’ll be like dancing hardcore metallic style non-stop~! It was pretty hilarious!

FMTA + Rabbit Junk + Stiff Valentine band show

Got up at 5pm today! I was shocked at how good I am at sleeping :)… probably due to the time difference / jet lag but still I felt bad for myself…

FMTA on the stageAnyways went to Andrew’s (from FMTA) band show today at Pat’s Pub, with Karl + Eva + Korie. Apparently we arrived there too early, around 8pm, bands hadn’t arrived yet not mentioning any of their fans… We thought it was okay since the pub was pretty nice overall with really good fish n chips…so we waited…and waited….for three hours! Finally Junk Rabbit started their sound testing around 10pm and we were like thanks God finally some music… Okay anyways, FMTA (Andrew’s band) opened the show, it was good, I like their new song “Ellipse” (or Ellipses??) so much, as well as “Pandora”, Jen (FMTA vocalist) sang so well in it at around 2/3 of the song…

Stiff ValentineRabbit JunkRabbit Junk (with their cool logo)Then it came Stiff Valentine and frankly I did not know it was them until Andrew told me about it after the show…lol… I thought they were okay, not as good as that I’ve listened to on their myspace. The show ended with Rabbit Junk and their crazy head bobbingggg friends. Frankly they were pretty awesome and the singer JP Anderson was pretty hilarious (too bad their guitar and synth sound wasn’t noisy enough or it’d have been way better) Anyway it was a pretty enjoyable show (FMTA rules!) other than the exceptionally long waiting time in the beginning… (Thanks Korie for sending me these pictures~)
