First timer here, saw lots of great cars, cool paint jobs, funny looking antique cars, insane engines, ultra deep thunderstorm sounding subwoofer systems, scary looking hot-rod type of people, nice chicks, INSANE hydraulic suspension systems near the end of the show when people did crazy demos going up-n-down and trying to drive on 3 wheels, guy dressed up as a funny looking/cute bee mascot handing helium balloons to kids, antique firetrucks, cars that have 2 sets of spare tires, cars that have normal sized bodies but wheels twice as big as normal, and a couple Harley Davidsons with cockpits that were twice as big as a normal sedan.

BBQ Pork / “Cha Siu”

Lee Kum Kee - BBQ Pork Sauce / Char Siu SauceHome-made BBQ porkI cooked today! Pretty rare but there’s this chunk of pork meat sitting in my fridge (mom bought it when she was here) so I decided to make my own Chinese BBQ pork out of it. It wasn’t too difficult or anything in fact, just took some time to prepare.

1) Defroze meat by placing it into lower deck overnight
2) Next day morning, marinate / soak it with some salt, and a lot of bbq pork sauce (brand = Lee Kum Kee). Leave it for around two hours
3) Place aluminum foil on an oven tray, put second layer of hand squeezed foil on top so the juice/grease from the meat will drain.
4) Place meat on the tray and place in an oven, about 500F, for about 15 minutes. Flip when needed
5) When nearly done (see burnt corners), put honey on the meat with a butter knife, both sides. Let it cook for another 5 minutes to create burns which make it tastier.
6) Done!

IT WAS TASTY~~~~~

Bad tasting Thai coffee drink

Super sweet Thai coffee drinkEwwww…. Got these pack of four “Thai Coffee Drinks” from T&T Supermarket yesterday. It was on sale for like…$0.99, and as a coffee lover I thought it was a pretty sweet deal. Also the packages have got this weird square shape that I’ve never seen before on any drink packaging. Got them, went home, and couldn’t wait to unpack one of them and take a sip. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it tasted sweeet as hell! I poured the entire content into a cup and diluted it with like, amount of water that’s equal to the size of the drink. STILL it was too sweet… and since I don’t usually waste food I drank all of it while having some taco chips for dinner.

Okay I thought that was the end of the nightmare but after an hour or two I started having super fast heartbeat as if I was smoking craun and it even became a little irregular. Thanks to the super high caffine content in the coffee, I had a really restless night with almost no sleep. Beware of this drink ><

A walk at the West Dyke Trail

Was checking out Google map yesterday and found this insanely long “trail” liked thingy that stretches from north Richmond all the way to the south / Steveston area. I was so curious what it was as I’ve never realized there’s such a trail after living here for 10+ years. Out of curiosity I drove there to take a look at it. It’s pretty close to my place anyway.

West Dyke TrailWest Dyke TrailSeagulls - Steveston areaWhat a discovery! It was a super super long trail named “West Dyke Trail” that goes all the way on both ends that I couldn’t even see where the ends of it was. It’s right next to a huge piece of wasteland or shrub or whatever they call it, and next to it was the ocean. There wasn’t anything blocking the view so bascially it’s all ocean and sky (and the trail). It was pretty. I couldn’t help but started walking along the path towards south (as it looked more interesting). People were passing by either with their dogs or their bikes. There wasn’t too many people, mostly caucasians (old, lol). I was feeling a bit weird just because everyone looked much older than I am…etc but I dunno, it was such a nice day and air was so fresh, view was so great.. where were all the youngsters? Probably doing things that I weren’t interested in….lol or maybe I’m just getting old ><

Seagull at shipyard - Steveston areaSeagull at shipyard - Steveston areaShipyard - Steveston areaAnyway, I walked all the way from the north to the south where the Steveston village was. I thought I knew a lot about the area but in fact I was wrong. There was SO many places that I haven’t been to…! Place with lots of seagulls, place with Pajo’s Fish & Chips, place with miniature Japanese garden and a lighthouse sort of thing….etc. Took so many pics, many of them were really nice, sort of exceeded my expection.

Sunset - West Dyke TrailCouple around sunset - West Dyke TrailOn the way back (had to walk all the way back), sun was setting (lucky me), and I was also at the perfect location to watch it. It was a great walk, I will be going back for it, no doubt.

Reverse macro

Canadian penny ($0.01) taken with reverse macro techniqueSaw a couple posts like this and this, reminds me of the “reverse macro” way of shooting macro closeup pictures. Basically you mount your lens in reverse, and manually turn the focus ring to focus (or adjust the distance of the object and yourself, lol). I had tried it earlier and since the lens wasn’t mounted to the camera i had to hold the lens up and keep it stuck to the camera while shooting, pretty crazy. But nevertheless it worked! See the picture of a Canadian penny ($0.01). It’s pretty amazing how much it magnifies!

Olympus E-420 Digital SLR Camera, woot!

Olympus E-420 Digital SLR CameraOlympus E-420 Digital SLR Camera with Manfrotto 728B tripodWas reading some reviews on my camera today and realized I haven’t really done a formal introduction of it like how I did it for my last couple cams like Canon SD1000, Canon G9, Fujifilm F50fd. Bought this camera about a little more than a month ago off Futureshop, with a staff discount from Peter who works at Best Buy, ended up paying just $355+tax for it, including one lens. Super amazing deal. It’s named “World’s Smallest DSLR”, which is one of the reasons getting it as it’s no fun hauling bulky cameras around. And as usual I fell in love with the camera since day one not just because it’s new but it is also my first ever DSLR camera. I’ve been wanting one forever, have been wanting to get the Canon Rebel XTi about a year and half ago, but wasn’t able to afford it back then. This Olympus turned out to be so affordable so I decided to get it without second thought. The pic is the camera itself, with a flash attached that I got free from Peter.

Manfrotto 728B TripodManfrotto 728B TripodAlso there is the $119 tripod (on sale from $149, lol) that I got 2 weeks ago, the Manfrotto 728B made in Italy. I decided to pay a bit more to get a brand name just to make sure I get an OK quality and sturdy one, so I can keep it for a long time. I love this camera, have already taken thousands of pictures with it in the past month, and liking every single one of them. I’m looking forward to bring it with me to the San Diego one-week trip next week, and take tons of pictures at Legoland and the San Diego Zoo :)
