Unboxing some new toys

Unboxing of my new toys - Spacewarp 5000 and Bow-Shooting Boy mechanical dollDelivery box of my new toysUnboxing of my new toys - Spacewarp 5000 and Bow-Shooting Boy mechanical dollGot a EMS package from a delivery guy an hour ago and as expected it was my recent internet order of two model kits from Japan! It is Spacewarp 5000, which is a railing system that allows you to lay some plastic railings around and once finished you can place a metallic ball at the highest point on the railings and it’ll keep running down, sort of like a roller coaster. The other one was “Bow-Shooting Boy“, which is a mechanical robot sort of thing that resembles a Japanese style little boy shooting an arrow over to a target, all the motions are done mechanically with gears and stuff, really cool stuff.

Spacewarp 5000 - unboxed“Boy-Shooting Boy” mechanical robotTook a couple of unboxing pics just to show how stoked I am to start playing with them…. I just can’t wait to start but I still have to finish up all the work I have for the rest of the day :(

Barcode for my site, lol

Just added this “mobile barcode link” thing to the site (see top left, might move to bottom left later on). It allows people with barcode scanner enabled cell phones to scan the code and bookmark the site. It doesn’t really have any practical use for my site (since people that are on my site already know the url of the site anyway), just kinda cool to have, lol.

The barcode was generated at http://www.barcodelink.net/

Zenfolio

Zenfolio online photo storage serviceFinally found a nice online photo archive service that suits my needs - Zenfolio. Have been struggling for the past couple weeks looking for one that looks sleek, have all the features I wanted like:

  • dark background,
  • slideshow,
  • easy to use interface,
  • easy to use uploader,
  • Tree-liked categorized navigation pane,
  • ability to create subfolders for my different albums,
  • shows EXIF information of my photos,
  • ability to show image in large size,
  • ability to download original image file,
  • fast,
  • unlimited storage for a low fee….etc.

I have gone through a list of other services like flikr, smugmug, pbase….etc. Ended up choosing Zenfolio and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve been uploading pics nonstop since morning. The gallery is at http://hermantse.zenfolio.com (got my own subdomain too, woot) I will have to go through the long list of photos I recently took and categorize/upload them. It’ll be a long/pain in the butt process but it will worth a whole lot at the end I’m sure.

    More Legoland stuff

Darth Vader tee from LegolandVarious keychains from LegolandSee this coolio t-shirt that I scored. It’s Darth Vader in his Lego form….The force is strong for this one! Also got a couple lego keychains: Batman, Riddler, R2-D2, and Stormtroopers. I wanted to get Darth Vader but I couldn’t find it.. It was pretty rush the day at Legoland otherwise I would have scored more cool stuff like this Motorized Walking AT-AT.

    The Lego Dude

Legoland plushBought this super cute Lego plush doll last week at the Legoland giftstore located at the entrance of Legoland California. It was sitting at one of the six or seven cash counters and I saw it when I was lining up to pay for the other stuff I was buying. I don’t think I saw it anywhere else in the store, so I think it was a rare item. I was so lucky to get it, it’s just too cute, lol. I also bought some other stuff like keychains, postcards, and a couple clothes/hats. They were mostly over priced but, oh well. By the way, Legoland was a really fun place to be at even for adults (IMO)…. I had a great time checking out all the cool mascots and characters/animals/cities/cars that were built with legos. Also the rides there were awesome, especially the robotic arm ride where you sit in at the palm of a giant robotic arm and then it would swing you around, turning upside down…etc. Just a really nicely built (and new) theme park that I think noone should miss.

    Back to Van

It’s the end of my 6-day San Diego trip, it was sooo cool. Got to see, eat, chat a lot, had lots of fun, took LOTS of pictures with my new camera, and got really really tired/stressed out…lol. Had a lot of fun hanging with couple of my bosses, and co-workers. It was awesome to be able to see everyone’s face in real after working with them for almost a year. Really people didn’t look like how they sound…lol. I totally didn’t expect how a couple of them look, but that was fun. I’ll be organizing the pictures a bit and post them up here.

SpaceWarp 5000 rollar coaster setI’m sooo tired I barely did anything today, just had crap microwave lunch, checked email, catched up with some side business stuff, unpacked some stuff, washed dishes, did garbage…etc…and browse a lot on the web…. I FOUND SOMETHING I REALLY WANTED FOR SO LONG. It’s called the “SpaceWarp 5000” metal ball roller coaster toy where a track is built from two plastic tubings and a metal ball is dropped from the very top of the track (that you build) and rolls down like a roller coaster cart. I owned one of those when I was small, I totally want to rebuild another one. I get amazed by things like this.

Gakken Bow-shooting Boy robotOn the same site I found another interesting toy that I guess I’ll pretty much end up getting. It’s the Gakken Bow-shooting Boy.

  • “Bow-shooting Boy” is one of the works of science and technology person TANAKA HISASHIGE who represents the end of Japanese “Edo” era. It is a mechanism doll that repeats advanced operation of the doll’s taking the arrow from the arrow setting up, pulling the bow, and shooting the target. In this kit, to make the mechanism and the movement of the real thing also in general, it reproduces it.
  • This is REALLY cool, everything done in a mechanical way, no circuit boards/complex logics or anything. It really makes me wonder at how smart ancient people really were.
