Craving for some…..junk food

Junk food from CandylandCandyland VIP card - 10% offI was thinking to check out Candyland at Aberdeen Centre today to see if they’ve got any new goodies lately, but ended up spending a whopping $61.34 T.T

Well, I was just going to spend over $20 to get the 2008 VIP card (10% off) since my 2007 card was expired, but ended up getting a LOT more than what I needed XD I scored this pack of Japanese dried seasoned scallop which is my all time favorite, this alone costs $40, lol. Then some Calbee chips, some candies, and some chocolates. Ended up paying well over 60 after tax, and the sales girl said that I can’t use my new VIP card for the first purchase… damn it. Anyway I guess I’ll enjoy my food and forget about the pain…. at least for now XD

Grilled sanma fish. Yummy~

Sanma fish - defrostedBought a pack of three frozen sanma fish (??? / ???) today. They were on special so I thought I could try them out. I’ve always been loving its sort of bitter, but delicious taste :) Most Japanese restaurants serve them but these ones I found were so huge and cheap….so….Okay, I defrosted it, gutted it, and put some garlic salt on both sides and a little inside the stomach area. Actually I shouldn’t have gutted it, some people were saying that it tastes better with the guts in, which I think is true and I’ll make sure I do it that way next time. Put the whole fish into my toast oven, toasted for about 15 min, and it’s ready~ The skin was SO crispy, love it! The meat tasted good too, and I actually ate all the smaller bones leaving just the main one~ lol

Sanma fish - cooked and ready to eatI should have flipped it a couple times. This fish is very oily, so the side that is facing downward was basically soaked in oil when it’s cooked. I found the part that’s facing up tasted way better since it’s dried up and the skin is was crispier. I think I’ll try cooking my next fish on my George Foreman grill so the oil can be drained off a bit.

Overall, it’s a great success!

Black cod - experimental

Black cod steakBlack cod - cooking in sauceGot a pack of black cod steak from T&T supermarket, was wondering if it’s the same kind of black cod that Benny had brought over from his restaurant. So I got it, pretty pricey ($10.x) but it’s got 3 pieces of steak cuts. Defrosted one of the pieces, made some sauces with soya sauce, minced garlic, sugar, some Japanese mirin (tastes sweet), and some white wine. Placed the fish on the pan (it’s harder than I thought), seared both sides, and started frying the skin. Cooked a bit with the sauce added in, and it’s ready~

Black cod - cooked and readyWell the final product looks a bit… darkened, but it actually tasted great :) , plus I got the crispy skin that I always wanted! Finally some fish for me, after 2 months of fish cravings.

*Note: Pictures do not always resemble the actual product.*

Japanese riceballs?!

Yaki Onigiri - Japanese riceballsGot some of these Yaki Onigiri (Japanese riceballs) today from a Japanese supermarket. I don’t know, the packaging kind of caught my attention for some reason..and I’ve always been wanting to try out one of these :) It says “deep taste, made with soya sauce”, and “super super big rice balls” on the front…lol. Anyway this is going to be my dinner for tonight so I guess we’ll find out how the taste goes….

New additions

Soda pop from “Jones”During my usual trip to the groceries, I scored some of these nice and colorful soda pops from “Jones“, which are sodas made with “cane sugar” (no clue what that is…lol). Other than the bright neon color that caught my attention, the labels on the bottle were pretty amazing. They are actually pictures that people send in from their website, and if they like them they will feature them on the labels. I think it’s a really ingenious idea that kills two birds with one stone… it gives a potential hope for people that send in their pictures, and then on the other hand they are able to quickly advertise the product. These three brightly colored pops sit pretty nicely with the rest of the bottles, lol…. I’m happy :)
