“Gung” - Korean drama review

Korean Drama - “Gung”Have been watching this Korean drama “Gung” (? in Chinese, ? in Korean) these days. Starred by Yun Eun Hea (??? / ???) as the “princess”, Joo Ji Hoon (??? / ???) as the “prince”, and Kim Jeong Hoon (??? / ???) as the “2nd prince”. Yun Eun Hea looks pretty cute overall IMO but not as cute as some other Korean stars like Han Ga In (??? / ???) and Han Chae Young (??? / ???) ;)

Korean Drama - “Gung”Anyway, the story was based on a manga with the same name “Gung”, about a love story happened among couple youngsters under an emperorial monarchy. The prince’s grandfather had promised in his testament that the prince will be married with this girl whose father had helped him a lot when he was alive, so the royal staff started searching for this girl. The girl is born in a poor family. Being in financial hardship, one day she suddenly received a letter from the royal palace about the fact that she has been appointed to be married to the prince. In order to help her parents out to pay off debts…etc she accepted the offer and started her life in the palace. The prince apparently does not like the girl but they had to get married anyway because it was his grandfather’s request in the testament and due to the rules they must carry out the deed. There is this other girl that the prince liked, but the girl refused his proposal. So not too long after when she heard the news of that the prince getting married to this other girl she started to regret / jealous. There you go, this love triangle started to develop when the prince started liking this girl from the poor family instead of the girl he’s been after for a long time.

Now I’m on the 5th episode out of 24, pretty interesting and enjoyable so far, I think I will keep watching.

Original LantChips

Original LantChipJust had half a bag of this ultra tasty Scandinavian potato chips (sour cream flavor) that I got off Ikea. Named “Original LantChips“, without doubt these are some of the best potato chips I’ve ever had - thick but not too thick, crisp, with a lovely potato taste that isn’t masked by the cooking oil. I think they were made in Sweden as seen from the packaging. Being a huge potato chips fan I couldn’t stop eating until I realized I’ve emptied half of a bag :) thinking that I should leave some for tomorrow’s enjoyement.

Smoke Salmon, Gravlax Salmon - IkeaAlso got from Ikea were some smoked and gravlax salmon. I got like three packs, just in case I can’t hold my craving for them when they run out! Okay time to enjoy some nice salmon while watching this cool Korean drama “Gung” (or ? in Chinese). I shall do an in-depth review next.

14981 - Elite Tapas

14981 interiorCaesar SaladWent to Benny’s restaurant “14981” with Edison, my co-worker at Graphically Speaking. Benny prepared an awesome menu for us, so at last I got to taste the great food he cooked at my place during the last couple parties, at his restaurant. I knew it’s going to taste way better and turned out it really was.

Black Cod with Tiger PrawnsLamb RackThe mussels and black cod were tenderer than the ones he cooked at my place, the caesar salad was great (I’d prefer less bacon on top), and the lamb rack was amazing (liked the “balsamic glaze” sauce a LOT, got to ask him where I can get it from.) I generally dislike lambs due to its “unique” flavor, but I can’t deny the fact that this one was really delicious. Edison liked it a lot too, especially the fish.

Line ups at Beard Papa - Aberdeen Centre - RichmondBox holding six cream puffsBeard Papa cream puffs x 6We went to Aberdeen Centre in Richmond to get these popular cream puffs from Beard Papa (an extremely popular Japanese bakery that makes delicious cream puffs). Edison wanted to get some for his girlfriend. I had their puffs couple years ago in Hong Kong and it was so tasty that I never forget, so I was stoked comming to know that they have just opened their first Canadian store, and it’s in Richmond! It was a huge lineup, around 30 people, and we had to wait for an hour and half.. well, the wait turned out to be well worth though as the puffs were sooooooooooo good. I bought six (limited a dozen for each person), I think I still have one left in the fridge and it’ll likely be gone tonight :)

Ajisen ramen - disappointment

Ajisen Ramen @ Parker Place, RichmondHuge doll holding a bowl of ramenBBQ Pork RamenI was really stoked at first to hear from my friend that Ajisen Ramen(????) had opened up a branch in Richmond since I liked it so much when I had it in Hong Kong. Still remember that the soup had this irresistable taste, with tasty cha siu pork served nicely. So there Vincent and I went to this newly opened Ajisen Ramen franchise at Parker Place, Richmond. The interior decor looked contemporary and the huge Ajisen doll standing in the middle of the restaurant was really cute. I ordered this BBQ pork ramen (always liked this one whenever I had ramen). The portion was small, but well I wouldn’t mind if it’s all tasty. Turned out to be a huge disappointment.. The ramen noodle tastes like spaghetti.. the BBQ pork was sliced TOO thin and it’s barely enough for anyone. There’s a half egg but that’s almost everything in the bowl. The soup was okay, not the best stuff for sure. All in all it’s very plain and nothing too special.. in fact felt a bit like getting ripped. Anyway, I was at least half full after swallowing all the soup. I guess I’m just too picky on food/taste, but oh well, that’s a good sign isn’t it.

River Rock CasinoAfter dinner we headed to the River Rock Casino for some fun. I sat in the Sic-Bo game table, fed in $20, and started playing this stupid game of taking a guess on whether the dices turn out to be a big or a small number. There were three dices, if the total adds up to 4-10 it’s a “small”, from 11 to 17 would be a “big”. Was winning for a while, went up to $26, then my luck was gone and I hit $0 in about 20 minutes :(. Still fun, and the place was packed.

hi Brandy

Awesome Chinese dishesAlice, Matthew, and IWent to Alice and Matthew’s place at False Creek for dinner. Alice quitted her day job so she’s pretty free at home. She invited me over for home-made dinner and of course, it was an awesome meal! She made a bunch of Chinese dishes like oyster in ginger garlic sauce, mixed veggie with Singaporean curry, steamed pork with preserved veggie, scrambled egg with tiger prawns, and…this other dish that I’m not too sure how to name it in English..some part of a cow’s stomach (upper right dish in the pic) ? Anyway the dishes were awesome especially the huge oysters. Tiger prawns were good too. We had some Japanese sake and Japanese plum wine(or “Umeshu” in Japanese) It was my first time trying out the plum wine, I thought it was too sweet but it certainly has this unique taste, especially when served warm.

Brandy and his momLazy dogAnd of course, as usual I played with their doggy Brandy. He seems to recognize me everytime I go there..maybe he’s left some kind of a trace on my body? He’s not as naughty as before I guess he’s grown up a lot (he’s like 1.5 year-old now). I treated him some dried apple and he was pretty crazy about it - I can tell that easily since he ”sat” obdiently when he saw the piece of treat that I’m holding, guess he’s trying to be nice just so I’ll treat him..lol.

Bird’s eye view from Alice’s unit (took with Canon G9)Downtown Vancouver sihouette - from Hasting StreetOh also check out this awesome night view from their unit (you can see half of the Science World from it)…Took with my new Canon G9…:) The other picture was taken on the way to Alice’s place, on Hasting Street. I thought it was kind of cool to be able to see the silhouette of Downtown Vancouver so I snapped this shot at a red light.

13 chicken wings! holy crap

Just went to the bandroom to meet up Korie and Karl.. Looks like Korie got dropped out from her class so she’s down and stuff, so we went there to chat up with her. She seems to be okay afterall, lol.. we jammed a bit as usual and a while later Joe (drummer) showed up so we all jammed.

I suggested to go to #9 restaurant to have their super tasty garlic and pepper wings so we went there. We ordered two orders of wings and I actually ate up 13 of them! Just couldn’t stop since it’s too tasty. Man I think I can eat it non-stop… :) Had ordered a Hong Kong style milk tea as well, I wish I can sleep well tonight…

On the way home I took a picture of the new BCIT Aerospace centre for no reason, and here you go:
